Paper prototyping

Getting feedback as early as possible will help to inform design direction and decisions. A paper prototype is quick to create, and can be used to test the idea before going into more detailed designs.

Steps

  1. Decide on the design idea, pattern or solution you require feedback on
  2. Quickly sketch your idea or flow on paper to establish how it will work
  3. Draw up your idea on sheets of paper as a series
  4. Try to use real content, not lorem ipsum
  5. If there are multiple steps or interactions draw these up on a series of sheets of paper
  6. Identify what you want to learn from the prototype
  7. Next you should conduct research sessions with potential users, you may partner with a user researcher to do these
